Tiny LEDs

Tiny LEDs the size of individual neurons have been developed as the latest tool for studying and manipulating the brain and other living tissues. The probes - which are thinner than a human hair and small enough to fit through the eye of a needle - will allow scientists to inject them into the brain with very little stress to the tissue to light up precise regions deep within the body's most complex organ.
